Avon Grove School District administrators, teachers, staff, and the Board of School Directors believe strongly in the importance of parent involvement in students' academic success.
Our mission is to help all students achieve individual excellence, and energizing families, communities, civic and business leaders to engage in the success of education is part of Avon Grove School District's Strategic Plan.
Parent involvement can take many forms, including:
- being aware of assignments, expectations, and grades;
- asking questions;
- seeking homework help, interventions, or enrichment when needed;
- attending curriculum nights, other parent information sessions, and parent-teacher conferences;
- volunteering in schools and classrooms;
- participating on advisory councils, committees and planning groups;
- as well as being involved in school PTO/PTAs, which support numerous academic and enrichment programs and family involvement activities.
RESEARCH
Over 40 years of research has demonstrated that engaging families in their children's education improves student achievement, attendance, and behavior, and increases graduation rates.
Strengthening home-school-community connections provides the framework for successful engagement. Connections are fostered through:
- meaningful, ongoing, and frequent communications with parents and students;
- providing actionable information parents can use to help their child outside of school;
- and establishing and maintaining partnerships with volunteers, social service, and other agencies that serve the needs of our community and support school programs.
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Avon Grove Minesterium - Network of spiritual and religious leaders from various denominations in the Avon Grove community.
Avon Grove Library - The Avon Grove Library is located in the West Grove Municipal Building on Rosehill Avenue in West Grove, Pa. The library has over 46,000 items in its collection, as well as access to other materials through the Chester County Library System. In addition, the library provides programming for children of all ages, including storytimes, after-school programs, and family-friendly events, as well as activities for teens like writers workshops, an anime club, and themed parties. The library also hosts fun and educational programs for adults , as well as outreach sessions at area daycares, preschools, and for the Spanish -speaking community.
Avon Grove Lions Club - Service organization club whose members help address the needs of the local communities of West Grove, Avondale, New London, Jennersville, Kemblesville, Cochranville and surrounding areas in southern Chester County, Pa. Holds Book Barn Sales, runs a Hospital Equipment program, and participates in programs for the youth in our community, including assisting with Penn London Elementary School's Young Authors project.
Garage Community & Youth Center - Open just for middle and high school students. The Garage is a place to go after school to get help with your homework, use a computer, play a game of pool, or participate in activities hosted by the groups that meet there. The West Grove branch of the Garage, which has established partnerships with Avon Grove High School and Fred S. Engle Middle School, is scheduled to open soon. La Comunidad Hispania - Providing integrated health care, social and adult educational services designed to help immigrant and low-income residents stay healthy, build strong families, and lead productive, fulfilling lives.
St. Rocco Parish, Misión Santa María, Madre De Dios - The Hispanic National Parish and its respective bilingual staff are able to reach out to the families of the Hispanic Community, serving their social needs; educating the youth in faith; involving adults in the life of the Church; and providing a welcoming and approachable faith community knowledgeable in their language and culture.
The Bridge - Food pantry and clothing closet located on the property of the Avon Grove Church of the Nazarene, 240 State Road, West Grove, Pa.
YMCA of Jennersville - Partners in our youth fitness programs, extended school year program, community outreach programs, student incentives and more.
West Grove-Avondale Rotary - Humanitarian organization that helps members of the community, locally and globally, through service programs, fellowship, and hands-on projects.
