Welcome to the home of the Avon Grove School District’s Mathematics Program!

Program Philosophy

The Avon Grove School District is committed to providing a learning environment that encourages students to take risks and develop their own mathematics concepts through high quality work.  High quality work means high standards, high interest, high challenge and high satisfaction.  The system is responsible for providing students the support needed to succeed in the world in which they live as mathematically literate thinkers and communicators.

 
Curriculum Documents

The Avon Grove School District’s Mathematics curriculum is developed by classroom teachers of mathematics , grades K-12, and administrators. The curriculum is grounded upon the Pennyslvania Standards for Mathematics.   The Pennsylvania Mathematics Standards include: 
  • Numbers, Number Systems, & Number Relationships
  • Computation & Estimation
  • Measurement & Estimation
  • Mathematical Reasoning & Connections
  • Mathematical Problem Solving & Communication
  • Statistics & Data Analysis

 The Planned Course Outline for the mathematics curriculum is based upon the standard categories. The following information is available on the Planned Course Outline:

  1. Pennsylvania standards for the core discipline
  2. Big Idea: Core concepts, principles, theories
  3. Enduring Understandings: Lasting understandings that involve the big ideas and give meaning to important facts
  4. Essential Questions: Key questions linked to enduring understandings and assessment

The Planned Course Outlines are also broken down into specific plans by grade level at the elementary level and by courses at the secondary level. These more detailed documents include the specific knowledge and skills for each grade level.
